Can I use generic replacement parts?

For filters and grinder drums, often — for pumps and blades, check the flow rate or the fitting standard first, because a part that nearly fits is worse than no part.

It depends on how much the fit matters.

Usually safe

Carbon filter pads cut to size, provided they seat under tension. Generic grinding drums where the diameter matches. Bin liners.

Check first

Fountain pumps: visually identical units span 60 to 220 l/h, and the wrong flow either overshoots the bowl or fails to lift water.

Standards help

A5 clipper blades interchange across many brands because there is a standard. Where a standard exists, generics are safe; where a maker has invented a bayonet, they are not.

The failure to avoid

A filter that lets water round its edge, or a drum that runs off-center. Both appear to work and quietly undo the thing you bought them for.
