Feeder spares, seals and bowls

On an automatic feeder the motor is rarely what dies. The hopper seal hardens, humidity reaches the kibble, the kibble softens, and the rotor jams on food it used to move — a chain of small failures that ends with a machine returned as broken. We list seals, desiccant packs, rotors and bowls by fitment, and mark the models for which none of these are sold.

The buyer behind each kind, in feeder spares

Broken part
A broken lid, bowl or rotor immobilizes a perfectly working feeder. The main use case.
A second bowl to skip washing between meals
A spare bowl lets you wash one while the other is in service. Particularly useful in a multi-animal household.
Lost power supply
A mislaid proprietary power unit leaves the machine unusable. Voltage and current must match exactly.

The downsides that come with feeder spares

Replacing a feeder part or the feeder
On a solid feeder, the part costs a tenth of a new one. On a budget model, the sum almost always leans towards replacing the lot.
The feeder brand's part or a compatible one
A feeder's mechanical parts are specific to the model. An approximate part jams the mechanism instead of repairing it.
A part still on sale against a machine that lasts
Parts availability decides a feeder's real service life. A criterion to weigh before buying the machine.

The questions people ask about feeder spares

Where do you read a feeder part's reference?

Under the machine or in the instructions, with the exact model. A feeder's parts are not interchangeable across models.

Is the bowl dishwasher-safe?

Often yes for the bowl and lid, never for the electronic base. The instructions settle it.

What if the mechanism jams?

Empty the hopper, check no kibble is caught in the rotor, and test with kibble of a different shape.

Can another power supply be used?

Only at identical voltage and at least equal current. A different voltage can destroy the machine.

Why do the portions vary?

The shape and size of the kibble have a large effect on the volume dispensed. Reweigh whenever you change food brand.

Should the hopper be cleaned?

Regularly: greasy residue goes rancid and the bottom of the hopper fouls. Dry completely before refilling.

Are parts available for long?

It varies a great deal between manufacturers. A real criterion to weigh before buying a feeder.

Will a three-dimensionally printed part do?

For a cosmetic part, sometimes; for a part touching food, no, because the layers hold residue and cannot be cleaned. The stated food-grade material is what settles it.

Worth remembering, on feeder spares

Parts availability decides a feeder's real service life: a criterion to weigh before buying the machine. Parts are not swapped between models, and a power supply at the wrong voltage destroys the electronics.
