Coats that mat, and the blade that stops it · review
Aesculap Exacta GT415 review
A 115-gram detail trimmer with a 0.5 mm (0.02 in) veterinary blade, for faces, paws and bellies rather than full clips. It comes with a second blade head.
What we take from it A specialist tool, priced like one. If paws and faces are your problem, nothing on this page does that job better; if you want one machine for everything, this is not it.
What it is
A small, light detail trimmer: 115 grams, a 0.5 mm (0.02 in) veterinary blade, a spare
blade head in the box. Aesculap presents it for exact work around the head,
belly and paws of dogs and cats.
The job it is for
Every full-size clipper on this page struggles in the same three places: the
fur between paw pads, the area around the eyes, and a belly. They are too
heavy, too wide and too loud. A 115-gram trimmer with a 0.5 mm (0.02 in) blade solves
that and nothing else — which is why it is bought alongside a clipper rather
than instead of one.
Quiet and vibration-free
Aesculap’s own description, and it is the specification that matters for face
work. An animal that will tolerate a body clip will often not tolerate
anything buzzing near its ears, and vibration is what it feels first.
The spare head
A second blade head comes in the box. On a detail tool used a few minutes at a
time, a blade lasts a long while — but a blunt blade near a face is exactly
where you do not want to improvise, and having the spare on the table is worth
more than having it on order.

What we rate, and what we flag up
Strengths
115 g (4.1 oz): light enough to work around a face without the weight doing the steering
0.5 mm (0.02 in) is the length that matters for paw pads and around eyes, where guide combs cannot go
Aesculap states it runs quietly and without vibration — the two things that decide a face job
Second blade head in the box, so a blunt one does not stop the session
Compromises
Not a full-clip machine: 0.5 mm (0.02 in) and a small head, by design
Sold through a reseller, and not listed on Amazon US or the UK store
No live offer in Spain when we checked
Costs as much as a full-size clipper while doing a narrower job

The questions owners ask
Can I clip a whole dog with it?
You could, and it would take a long time and leave the coat at 0.5 mm (0.02 in) — far shorter than most dogs should be clipped. This is a detail trimmer: the right tool for the fur between paw pads, around the face and on a belly before an operation, and the wrong one for a body clip.
Why does the weight matter so much?
Because detail work happens close to eyes, ears and pads on an animal that moves. At 115 g (4.1 oz) the machine goes where your hand puts it; a 400 g (14.1 oz) clipper drifts, and near a face that is the difference between a trim and an injury.
What is a "veterinary cut"?
A very short blade length used before procedures, where the skin needs to be visible and clean. On a pet at home the same blade is what clears the fur between the pads — the place that mats, collects grit and is impossible to reach with a comb fitted.

This one and its buyer, among pet devices
Paw pads, faces and sanitary trims — the work a full-size clipper is too big and too loud to do.

Cordless · 120 min runtime · #10-1 blade head included
A cordless professional clipper with a lithium-ion pack rated for two hours and a #10 blade head in the box. Heiniger sells it on being quiet, which is unusual at this level.
Best for: Grooming several animals away from a socket — or one animal that will not tolerate a corded salon clipper.
55 dB · 6,800 rpm · 4 h runtime · four metal combs 3–25 mm (0.12 to 0.98 in)
The same class of clipper as the Pro Upgrade with metal guide combs instead of plastic ones, four hours of runtime, and stainless blades. The combs are the reason it costs more.
Best for: A thick or long coat where plastic combs have already slipped, and a household that clips regularly enough to notice the finish.
Under 49 dB · 6,000–6,800 rpm · 3.5 h runtime · IPX7
The quietest clipper in this group at under 49 dB, fully washable under the tap, with three and a half hours of runtime from a 2,000 mAh cell. It costs about the price of two bags of litter.
Best for: A nervous animal, a cat, or a first clipper — the noise figure is the specification that matters most here and this is the best of it.
