Every failure mode in the automatic feeder category comes from moving kibble: augers jam, drums stall, portions vary. This machine moves nothing but a lid. It cannot jam, it does not care what shape the food is, and the only thing that can go wrong is a flat battery.
Hopper feeders take dry kibble and nothing else. A cat on a wet diet — which is a great many cats — cannot use one at all. This feeder is the answer to that, and the ice pack is what makes a lunchtime meal viable rather than theoretical.
Two meals. That covers a long day at work; it does not cover a weekend, and no combination of settings changes that. For longer absences you want a hopper machine and dry food, or a neighbor.

Wet, and that is the point. Every hopper feeder on this page moves dry kibble and will do nothing with a pouch; this one simply uncovers a bowl at a set time. If your cat is on wet food, the choice on this page is short and this is the top of it.
Long enough for a working day in a normal room, which is what Cat Mate designs it for, and not long enough for a hot kitchen in July. Wet food left for many hours in a warm room is not a machine problem — it is food safety, and the honest answer is not to try.
A determined one can work at the lid, because this is a covered tray rather than a sealed box. Cats that raid feeders are the reason the tamper-resistant Closer Pets models exist and cost more.
