Mimfam AS11 review

A $99.97 open-top automatic box with a 10 L waste bin, a large top entry and seven safety sensors, that publishes no minimum cat weight.

What we take from it The cheapest machine on this page at $99.97, and the one that publishes the most for the money: a 10 L waste bin, a 41.5 × 39 cm (16.3 × 15.4 in) top entry, four pairs of infrared sensors and three hall sensors, at 32 dB. What it does not publish is the one figure this shelf tells you to check first — the minimum weight it will detect. It carries the same manufacturer reference, AS11, as the teweoa box twenty dollars above it.

What you are getting

An open-top automatic box at $99.97 — the cheapest machine published on this shelf — with a 10 L waste container, a top entry of 16.33 × 15.35 in (41.5 × 39 cm), and a stated noise level of 32 dB. It ships with liner bags and a litter mat.

It publishes more than machines three times the price

Four figures on this listing are rare at this price: the entry opening in both dimensions, the waste capacity in liters, the sensor count broken down by type, and the noise level. The teweoa box further down this page, at $119.99, gives one of those four.

Seven sensors, named by type

“4 pairs of infrared sensors and 3 hall sensors”, stated to stop the cycle the moment a cat is detected inside and resume once it has left.

A hall sensor reads a magnet, so those three are almost certainly watching the lid and the waste drawer rather than the cat — a machine that cycles with the bin removed is the other way one of these fails. Naming them separately is more than most listings in this survey do.

The open top is the design choice

“Unlike side-entry models that may pose a risk of kitten entrapment, this airy layout ensures easy access.” At least four of the fifteen boxes already published here are open-top, and this is the usual argument for it.

A top entry also means a cat has to step up and down over a 61 cm (24 in) body, which is the argument against it for an old or arthritic cat.

The figure this shelf asks for is missing

The buying advice on this page is to check the minimum detected weight first, because a box that cannot feel a small cat will cycle while it is inside. Whisker publishes 3 lb for both its machines. PETLIBRO publishes a 2.2 lb floor below which auto-clean should be switched off.

Mimfam publishes nothing. “Detects your cat’s presence” is the whole statement, and that leaves a kitten unaccounted for.

The same machine is sold twice

Reference AS11, 9,979 g (352 oz), 540 × 515 × 610 mm (21.3 × 20.3 × 24 in), 32 dB. The teweoa listing on this page gives the same reference, the same noise figure and a body six millimeters wider, at $119.99. They are the same box under two names, and this is the cheaper one.

What is not published

No minimum cat weight, no maximum cat weight, no cycle time, no litter compatibility. Ten days between emptyings is given for a single cat, with no figure for two.

What we rate, and what we flag up

Strengths

  • The cheapest machine on this shelf, at $99.97
  • Publishes the entry opening, the waste capacity, the sensor count and the noise level
  • Twenty dollars below the identically referenced teweoa box

Compromises

  • No minimum cat weight, which is the first figure this shelf tells you to check
  • No litter compatibility stated, so tofu and crystal are unverified
  • A 61 cm (24 in) body to step over, on a top-entry design

The questions owners ask

Is it the same machine as the teweoa box?

Every published figure says yes. Both carry the manufacturer reference AS11, both state 32 dB, both are 515 mm (20.3 in) deep and 610 mm (24 in) tall, and the bodies differ by six millimeters in width. The weights differ by 181 g (6.4 oz). The teweoa listing does not even carry its brand in the title. The practical consequence is the price: $99.97 against $119.99 for what the references say is one box.

Is it safe for a kitten?

The listing does not let you answer that. It describes four pairs of infrared sensors and three hall sensors that stop the cycle when a cat is detected, but it never publishes the weight below which detection fails — and that is the figure the buying advice on this shelf asks for first. Whisker states 3 lb (1.4 kg) for both its boxes; PETLIBRO says to disable auto-clean under 2.2 lb. For a kitten, prefer a machine that publishes the number.

How often does the bin need emptying?

"A single cat can go up to 10 days without manual scooping", on a 10 L container. That is the largest waste capacity stated on this page — the Litter-Robot 4 drawer and the PETLIBRO bin are both smaller. No figure is given for two or three cats, and the litter type changes the answer, since clumping clay is heavier and bulkier per visit than tofu.
