How do I clean a treat dispenser?

Empty it completely between refills, wipe the wheel and chute dry, and use only the treat size the maker specifies — greasy or soft treats are what gum a launcher and cause the jams people blame on the machine.

A treat launcher is a simple mechanism with one enemy: residue.

Empty rather than top up

Old treats at the bottom absorb humidity and leave a film. Empty, wipe, refill.

Dry cleaning only, unless the maker says otherwise

Electronics sit directly under the hopper on most of these machines. A dry cloth on the wheel and the chute is the routine; water is the manufacturer’s call, not ours.

Treat shape is the specification

Round, dry, and within the stated size range. Soft or irregular treats bridge in the chute — the single most common complaint about every treat camera made.

If it jams repeatedly

Change the treat before condemning the machine. Most jams are a bag of the wrong shape.

This does not replace your device’s manual. Blade temperatures, locking mechanisms and cleaning procedures differ from model to model, and the manufacturer’s instructions take precedence over anything written here. Unplug a device before dismantling it, check a hot blade or an air nozzle against your own hand before it goes anywhere near an animal, and keep a mechanism that closes or rotates under supervision until you know how it behaves.
