Between €150 and €250 buys layered safety sensing, two weeks of waste capacity and an app; below that, the sensor thresholds and the drawer are what get cut.
Price in this family buys three things, in this order.
Capacity
The drawer, not the drum. Cheap machines quote a large chamber volume and fit a small waste bin, which is the number that decides how often you are involved.
Sensing
Infrared plus weight plus an anti-pinch stop, with a delay you can set. The machines around and above €150 publish all four; the cheapest ones publish a weight range and little else.
Materials and seals
The drawer seal is what stops odor and what fails first. Whether it is a listed spare tells you more about a machine’s five-year life than any feature.
What price does not buy
Acceptance. The cheapest machine we review is also the quietest on published figures and open-topped — the two things that decide whether a cat uses it.
This does not replace your device’s manual. Blade temperatures, locking mechanisms and cleaning procedures differ from model to model, and the manufacturer’s instructions take precedence over anything written here. Unplug a device before dismantling it, check a hot blade or an air nozzle against your own hand before it goes anywhere near an animal, and keep a mechanism that closes or rotates under supervision until you know how it behaves.
