Whisker Litter-Robot EVO review

A compact Litter-Robot for one or two cats, with weight-based cat identification in the app and manufacturer clearance to stand on carpet.

What we take from it Whisker’s small Litter-Robot: two cats instead of four, a traditional litter box footprint, and the one box on this page its own manufacturer clears for carpet — which is the opposite of what Whisker says about the Litter-Robot 4. At $599 it costs $150 less than the LR4 bundle and comes with no consumables at all.

What you are getting

The smallest Litter-Robot: 617 × 523 × 701 mm (24.3 × 20.6 × 27.6 in), 9.75 kg (21.5 lb), rated for up to 2 cats, each at least 3 lb (1.4 kg). $599, with no consumables in the box.

It is the footprint that is the feature

“With the same footprint as a traditional litter box, the Litter-Robot EVO fits seamlessly into apartments, bathrooms and tight corners.”

At 52 cm (20.5 in) deep it is nine centimeters shallower than the LR4 and twelve centimeters narrower — the difference between a box that fits beside a toilet and one that does not. Height is almost unchanged, 701 mm (27.6 in) against 787 mm (31 in), because the globe has to clear the drawer either way.

And it is cleared for carpet, where the LR4 is not

“The Litter-Robot EVO can be used on any surface, even carpet!”

The Litter-Robot 4 listing says the opposite about the same weight-scale technology: “most accurate when the unit sits on a firm surface, not carpeting”. Both identify cats by weight, and only one is endorsed for a carpeted room. If the box is going on carpet, this is Whisker’s answer, and the newer design is the permissive one.

The app does less than the LR4’s

“Weight-based cat identification, real-time device status updates, daily visit and cycle tracking, and remote control.”

Missing against the LR4: litter level. The EVO reports visits, cycles, status and weight; it does not tell you how much clean litter is left. That is the single most useful thing the larger model reports, and the reason to look at the price gap as buying a sensor rather than buying volume.

Odor control is sold separately

“Paired with odor-absorbing carbon filters or optional OdorTrap Packs.” The LR4 bundle on this page ships with two carbon filters and three OdorTrap refills; this listing ships with none. That is part of the $150 difference, and the filters shelf on this site is where the recurring cost shows up.

Two cats is a hard rating, not a hint

“Suitable for up to 2 cats.” The LR4 is rated for four and the PETLIBRO recognizes ten. For a third cat this is the wrong machine, and the limit is about drawer volume and cycle frequency rather than about recognition.

What is not published

No waste-drawer capacity, no emptying interval, no cycle time, no noise level, and no litter compatibility statement — the Litter-Robot design takes clumping litter, but this listing does not say so.

The questions owners ask

How is it different from the Litter-Robot 4?

Three published differences. It is rated for 2 cats instead of four; it is twelve centimeters narrower and nine shallower; and it is cleared for carpet, which the LR4 is not. Against that, it does not report litter level in the app and ships with no consumables, where the LR4 bundle carries three OdorTrap refills, ten liners, thirty wipes and two filters. The gap is $150.

Does it really work on carpet?

Whisker says so in as many words — "can be used on any surface, even carpet!" — and says the opposite about the Litter-Robot 4, which asks for a firm floor for its weight scale to stay accurate. Both machines weigh the cat the same way, so the difference is in how the EVO is built or calibrated rather than in the principle. For a carpeted room it is the model the manufacturer endorses.

What does it cost to run?

The listing does not say, and that is the honest answer. It names carbon filters and optional OdorTrap Packs but includes neither, publishes no waste-drawer capacity and no emptying interval. The carbon filters on the filters shelf of this site are changed every two to three weeks, which is the order of magnitude to plan for.
