The whole pack costs less than one genuine cassette
KMKMVV Litter Genie refills, 15-pack
Fifteen third-party refill bags with a cassette for the Litter Genie disposal pails, in seven-layer film, at $24.99.
What you are getting
Fifteen refill bags and one refill cassette, compatible with the Litter Genie Standard, Plus and XL pails. Seven layers of film. $24.99.
This is the number this shelf exists to show you
The buying advice on this page says to price a year of cassettes before buying a machine that takes proprietary ones, because “the machine is sold near cost and repaid in refills”.
Here is that arithmetic, with both products on the same shelf:
| contents | price | per cassette |
|---|
| Litter Genie, genuine | 3 XL cassettes | ≈ $80 | $26.67 |
| KMKMVV, third party | 15 bags + 1 cassette | $24.99 | — |
The whole third-party pack costs less than one genuine cassette.
And the refill interval makes it years, not months
“One bag cassette will last up to 8 weeks for one cat.”
Fifteen bags at eight weeks is a hundred and twenty weeks — over two years for a single cat, on a $24.99 purchase. The genuine three-pack covers roughly twenty-four weeks of film for eighty dollars.
Those are the manufacturers’ own claims rather than a measurement, and a second cat halves everything. The ratio is what matters, and the ratio is not close.
Seven layers, against “original odor-barrier film”
KMKMVV publishes a layer count: seven. Litter Genie publishes a property instead — odor-barrier film, with fifty per cent more film per XL cassette than its standard cassette. Neither publishes a permeability figure, so the two claims cannot be compared directly.
What can be said is that a seven-layer film is a laminate built to be a barrier, and that the number is at least checkable by cutting one.
The cassette in the box is the part that matters
A refill system has two pieces: the bag material and the plastic cartridge that holds and cuts it. This pack includes one cartridge with the fifteen bags, which means it works on a pail whose original cartridge is broken or lost — the usual reason a working pail gets thrown away.
“The refill bags are easy to assemble, please follow the manual in the package.” Assembly is the honest word: this is not a drop-in sealed cassette, it is film you load.
Three pails, one part
Standard, Plus and XL. That is the whole Litter Genie range, and it means the part survives a change of pail.
What is not published
No film thickness, no total length, no bag dimensions, and no statement of whether the cartridge is reusable after the fifteen bags are gone. “The best material” is not a specification.
