What we take from it The daily brush. Nothing dramatic, no undercoat cleared, and the tool most likely to be picked up without an argument.
What it is
A two-sided brush from FURminator: stiff wire pins on one face, boar bristle
on the other, for nearly all coat types on dogs and cats.
Two jobs, one handle
The pin side detangles and cleans while massaging the skin; the bristle side
lifts dirt out of the topcoat and distributes the coat’s own oils. Used in that
order, the result is a coat that looks groomed rather than merely de-haired.
Why it matters next to the blades
Deshedding tools are weekly, deliberate and slightly aggressive. This is the
brush you use for two minutes in front of the television, and it is the reason
the weekly session finds less to do. Animals that flinch at a rigid edge
usually accept it without complaint.
Its limit
It will not clear an undercoat, and no amount of brushing with it substitutes
for a deshedding session in moult. Buy it alongside, not instead.

The questions owners ask
Is a dual brush enough on its own?
For a short single coat that does not moult heavily, often yes. For a double coat in moult, no — it will keep the surface tidy while the undercoat continues to shed into the house. The two tools are complements, not alternatives.
What is boar bristle actually for?
Lifting dust and distributing the coat’s own oils along the hair, which is what makes a topcoat look glossy without any product. It is the last step rather than the first, and it is the one animals usually enjoy.
Can I use it on a cat every day?
Most cats tolerate it, which is exactly why it is here. Daily light brushing removes hair before it is swallowed or dropped, and it is the least invasive way to do that. Keep the wire side off bony areas and watch the cat’s reaction rather than the clock.
