SureFlap Microchip Pet Door, white review

A microchip pet door in white, naming all three chip standards, with a programmable curfew and a three-year warranty.

What we take from it The white SureFlap Microchip Pet Door, $14.26 dearer than the identical brown one on this shelf and without the collar tag the brown listing supplies. Everything else is the same door: three chip standards named, 32 identities, a curfew, three years of warranty.

What you are getting

The SureFlap Microchip Pet Door in white: 6 11/16 × 7 inch opening, 32 identities, four C cells for up to a year, programmable curfew, three-year warranty. $227.94.

The brown one is the same door for less

SureFlap lists this door twice on this shelf. White here at $227.94; brown at $213.68.

Both read 9-digit Avid Secure, 10-digit FDXA and 15-digit FDXB. Both store 32 identities. Both open 6 11/16 × 7 inches, run on four C cells for up to twelve months, carry a low-battery light and a three-year warranty.

The brown listing adds one thing: a collar tag supplied. This one says tags are “sold separately for pets without microchips”.

Fourteen dollars and twenty-six cents, plus a tag, for choosing white.

The curfew, spelled out here

“SET CURFEW TIME! Program the door to lock and unlock at specified times.”

The brown listing mentions the function in passing; this one leads with it. It is the same mechanism — a schedule held in the door, needing no app, no hub and no network.

Restricted entry, free exit

“RESTRICTED ENTRY ONLY — any animal can exit.” Stated plainly, which is worth something: the limitation is on the page rather than discovered after fitting.

For per-animal exit control the SureFlap DualScan on this shelf is the one that scans both ways, at $209.89 with a smaller opening.

Where it goes

Doors, windows or walls, with accessories from SureFlap. Glass needs the mounting adapter sold separately at $74.03 for two, and a glazier to cut the hole.

What is not published

Cut-out dimensions, the weight of the door itself, and any noise figure. The shipping weight is 1.49 kg.

The questions owners ask

Is the white one worth $14.26 more?

Only for the color. Both listings describe the same door — same opening, same three chip standards, same 32 identities, same four C cells, same twelve months, same three-year warranty. The brown version is $213.68 and supplies a collar tag; this one is $227.94 and sells tags separately. On the published evidence the difference is paint and a tag.

Can I stop my cat going out?

Only on a schedule, not per cat. The curfew locks and unlocks the whole door at set times, and otherwise any animal may exit. For exit control per cat, the SureFlap DualScan on this shelf scans in both directions and holds separate permissions for up to 32 cats — with a smaller opening, 4¾ × 5⅝ inches.

How long do the batteries last?

Up to twelve months on four C cells, with a red light when they are low. C is a less common size than the AA the DualScan uses, which matters when the door starts flashing on a Sunday. Neither cell is included.
