What it is

Buying the manufacturer’s litter

Usually unnecessary and occasionally sensible. The M1 accepts several litter types, so this is not a lock-in — but if you would rather not spend a month finding out which bag your machine likes, the one it was tested with is the short cut.

Dust and sensors

The dust figure is not about your lungs. An enclosed drum full of fine dust coats infrared sensors, and a sensor that mis-reads stops a cycle or starts one at the wrong moment. Low-dust litter is a maintenance decision.

The questions owners ask

Do I have to use the manufacturer’s litter?

No — the M1 takes clumping tofu, bentonite, mineral and mixed litters. What buying the manufacturer’s own gets you is the removal of doubt: if the box jams on its own litter, that is a machine problem rather than an argument.

What does activated carbon do that fragrance does not?

It adsorbs odor rather than covering it, and it adds nothing for a cat to smell. In a box a cat has to be willing to enter, that difference is worth more than the odor control itself.

Is "99.9% dust-free" measurable?

It is Neakasa’s figure and there is no standard behind it. What is real is the consequence: dust in an enclosed drum settles on infrared sensors, and sensors that mis-read are what stop these machines mid-cycle.
