Why size 10 first

It is the length nearly everything is done at: a body clip under a guide comb uses the comb for length and the blade underneath simply has to cut cleanly. If you own one blade, this is the one.

Heat is the constraint

A clipping session ends when the blade gets too hot to hold against skin. Cooler-running steel is therefore not a comfort feature but a working one — and oiling every few minutes does more for blade temperature than any metallurgy.

The A5 system

The reason to buy into it is availability: blades in every length, from several manufacturers, still sold decades after the machine was made. That is what makes an expensive corded clipper a long-term purchase.

The questions owners ask

What length does a size 10 leave?

About 1.5 mm (0.06 in). It is the length groomers use for a body clip under guide combs, and on its own it is a very short finish — fine for a summer clip on a healthy coat, and short enough that a pale-skinned dog should not be left in the sun straight afterwards.

Does cryogenic hardening make a difference?

Oster states the blade runs cooler and holds its edge longer. Heat is the practical limit on a clipping session — a blade that gets hot has to be swapped or cooled — so a claim about temperature is a claim about how long you can keep working.

Will it fit my clipper?

If the clipper takes A5 snap-on blades, yes. That covers Oster, Andis, Heiniger, Wahl KM and several others. If your clipper has a fixed blade or a proprietary head, it will not — and no adaptor fixes that.
