A tick marks the better answer on that line only. Counting ticks does not decide the page — the two verdicts below do, because these machines answer different questions.

Which of the two, for which animal

Drinkwell Streamside ceramic

No amazon.com listing was found for this one. We hold references for other markets but none for the United States, so it may not be buyable here — which is the first thing to weigh against anything below.

Take the Streamside for one cat. It is cheaper, small enough to sit anywhere, and ceramic washes properly — the thing that decides whether a fountain is still hygienic in year two.

Drinkwell 360 Multi-Pet

No amazon.com listing was found for this one. We hold references for other markets but none for the United States, so it may not be buyable here — which is the first thing to weigh against anything below.

Take the 360 Multi-Pet for two or more animals. Access all the way round removes the queue between cats that avoid each other, and nearly four liters turns refilling from a daily chore into a weekly one.

The questions owners ask

Do they take the same filter?

Yes — PetSafe lists one activated carbon filter for the 1.8, 3.7 and 7.5-liter ceramic fountains as well as the Sedona and Avalon, which is unusually convenient if you run two fountains of different sizes.

Ceramic or stainless?

Both resist the scratching that turns plastic into a biofilm trap. Stainless survives being scrubbed and cannot chip; ceramic is heavier, which stops a cat pushing it around a tiled floor.
