Coats that mat, and the blade that stops it · review
Wahl KM2+ review
A mains-powered salon clipper with a load-adapting motor, a snap-on blade system and a 4.2-meter cable. It is built for full clips on any coat type, and it is corded for a reason.
What we take from it A working machine at a working price. Buy it if you clip full coats; if you tidy paws twice a year, the €30 oneisall does that job and this one will sit in a cupboard.
What it is
A mains professional clipper: two speeds at 3,000 and 3,400 rpm, a motor that
adapts to load, a precision-ground 1.5 mm (0.06 in) stainless snap-on set, and 4.2 meters (14 ft)
of cable. Wahl states it is built for all coat types and for full clips on
dogs, cats and small animals.
Load adaptation is the specification that matters
A hobby clipper meets a dense coat and slows down. A professional motor senses
the load and holds its speed, which is why a salon machine finishes a
double-coated dog in one pass while a cheap one heats up, drags, and has to be
put down to cool. Everything else on this listing follows from that.
The blade system
Snap-on, tool-free, and standard. Blades in this system are sold by several
manufacturers in every common length, which means the machine can be adapted
years from now — the opposite of a clipper whose only blade is the one in the
box.
Where it is sold
Listed in Germany, France and Italy with live offers; no offer in Spain and no
listing on Amazon US or the UK store when we checked. It is sold through a
reseller rather than by Wahl directly, which is normal for professional
grooming equipment on Amazon and worth knowing before you order.
Cable, and the animal
4.2 meters (14 ft) sounds like a detail and is not. It decides whether the dog stands
on a table in a quiet room or next to a socket in a corridor, and where the
dog stands decides how the session goes.
What we rate, and what we flag up
Strengths
A load-adapting motor holds its speed where hobby clippers stall
Snap-on blades: changing length or cleaning takes seconds, and blades are widely available
4.2 m (14 ft) of cable means the dog stands where it is calm, not where the socket is
No battery to degrade — a corded salon machine outlives several cordless ones
Compromises
Corded, with everything that implies around a moving animal
Sold here by a reseller rather than by Wahl, and not listed on Amazon US or the UK store
No live offer in Spain when we checked
Salon price for a machine most households use twice a year

The questions owners ask
Why is a corded clipper still worth buying?
Two reasons: a mains motor holds torque under load where a battery motor sags, and there is no cell to lose capacity. On a full clip of a double-coated dog, the difference shows up as a machine that keeps cutting instead of one that heats and slows halfway down the flank.
What does the snap-on system change?
Blades come off and go on without tools, which matters because blades need cleaning during a session, not after it. It also means replacement blades are a standard part rather than a proprietary one — the single best predictor of how long a clipper stays useful.
Is 3,400 rpm not slow?
It is slower than the 6,800 rpm hobby clippers on this page, and that comparison is misleading. A professional clipper turns a heavier blade with far more torque; rpm on its own says nothing about how fast a coat comes off. What matters is that the speed does not fall when the blade meets hair.

0.5 mm (0.02 in) veterinary cut · 115 g (4.1 oz) · spare blade head included
A 115-gram detail trimmer with a 0.5 mm (0.02 in) veterinary blade, for faces, paws and bellies rather than full clips. It comes with a second blade head.
Best for: Paw pads, faces and sanitary trims — the work a full-size clipper is too big and too loud to do.
Cordless · 120 min runtime · #10-1 blade head included
A cordless professional clipper with a lithium-ion pack rated for two hours and a #10 blade head in the box. Heiniger sells it on being quiet, which is unusual at this level.
Best for: Grooming several animals away from a socket — or one animal that will not tolerate a corded salon clipper.
55 dB · 6,800 rpm · 4 h runtime · four metal combs 3–25 mm (0.12 to 0.98 in)
The same class of clipper as the Pro Upgrade with metal guide combs instead of plastic ones, four hours of runtime, and stainless blades. The combs are the reason it costs more.
Best for: A thick or long coat where plastic combs have already slipped, and a household that clips regularly enough to notice the finish.
