What it is

Why unscented is the default recommendation

A litter box only works if the cat wants to use it. Fragrance is added for human noses, and it is one of the two or three most common reasons a cat starts going somewhere else. In an automatic box — where the machine already introduces noise and movement — removing one more objection is cheap insurance.

Same base, same behavior

The tofu that makes up 80% of the bag clumps at the same speed as the corn version, so an automatic box handles it identically. The choice between the two is about smell and appearance, not mechanics.

What has not changed

The warranty question. Tofu grains swell, several box makers exclude them, and your manual decides.

Scented or unscented?

Unscented, almost always. Fragrance is added for the owner, and it is among the most common reasons a cat stops using a box. If a cat has recently started avoiding a box that used to work, the litter is the first variable to change — before the machine, before the location.

How is it different from the corn version?

The 20% that is not tofu: apple wood pellets rather than corn, and no fragrance or pigment at all. The clumping base is the same, so both behave the same way in an automatic box.

Does apple wood actually control odor?
