  • Solves the one failure mode of a microchip door — a chip that has migrated or reads intermittently
  • Works across the whole Sure Petcare range, including the feeders
  • It hangs on a collar, and collars come off — which is the problem chips were meant to solve

Best for: A cat whose chip the door reads unreliably — and as a spare before that happens.

What it is

An RFID tag for a cat’s collar, working with SureFlap microchip flaps and pet doors, SureFeed feeders and Felaqua Connect.

The problem it solves

Microchip doors read a chip that is already in the animal, which is elegant until it does not work. Chips migrate; some sit deep; some cats have to press their head into the tunnel at an angle nobody can teach them. A tag on the collar puts the key where the reader can always see it.

The trade

You are back to a collar, with everything that means: it can be lost, and on a cat it must break away under load. A tag is the fallback rather than the default, and it is worth having one in a drawer before the day the door starts refusing.

Across the range

One tag opens the flap and the SureFeed bowl. In a house where one cat is on a prescription diet and another is not, that is the whole system working as designed.

The questions owners ask

When do I need a tag rather than the chip?

When the door reads the chip intermittently or not at all. Chips migrate under the skin and some sit too deep for a flap’s antenna. Before buying a different door, try a tag — it is a tenth of the price and solves most of these cases.

Is a collar safe on a cat?

Only with a breakaway buckle that releases under load, and the tag must be light enough that the buckle still works. A collar that cannot release is a hazard; that is not a reason to avoid tags, it is a reason to buy the right collar.

Does it work with the feeders too?

Sure Petcare lists SureFeed microchip feeders and Felaqua Connect alongside the flaps, so one tag can open the door and the bowl. In a multi-cat house that is the point of the system.
